Most of the albums in this series were based on albums that I had purchased in my youth, a few are newer but all of the vintage titles are pieces I actually purchased. Depeche Mode’s Violator is one of those. This album came out in 1990 and while I was defiantly into hard rock I was also heavily into alternative music, U2, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, KMFDM, Bauhaus, Echo and the Bunnymen. So much good music came out in the late 80’s early 90’s. Violator's cover art features a red rose over a black background with their logo in the center. Since the album is predominantly black I decided to embroider a large scale floral pattern in the background in a textured black cashmere yarn. I then embroidered the rose in three colors of yarn as well. The contrast between the cardboard and the yarn creates a great amount of dimension. The logo was created as a patch and applied at the end.
