I was 19 when this album came out and this album changed music for me. This album was completely different from any record that I had ever listened to. Hard rock mixed with industrial and a level of angst and anger that I don’t feel has ever been captured on vinyl since. Trent Reznor created this album predominantly alone in his spare time playing every instrument and singing. I got the chance to see this concert at City Gardens in Trenton, NJ in either 1990 or 1991 and it was an amazing show. The band performed mostly in darkness beyond a chain link fence. Without a doubt one of the most iconic shows I had ever seen. Since I am such a big fan I know this wont be the last Nine Inch Nails album that I will embroider. The graphics for Pretty Hate Machine feature a colorful digital graphic surrounded by darkness and stark white typography. I decided to add their logo to the background in a wallpaper pattern in black yarn. For the colorful part of the album cover I used multiple layers of hand dyed yarn along with rayon thread for the details. The album title and band name was created as patches and affixed at the end.
