Fleetwood Mac, Then Play On
Embroidery stitched directly through a vinyl record sleeve.
12x12x2 inches, framed in acrylic.
One of the earlier Fleetwood Mac albums, Then Play On was released in 1969. This was their third album and the last to feature Peter Green, one of their original and most famous members. The sound and style of earlier Fleetwood Mac differed from their most famous albums created with Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. The sound is raw blues with tracks like “Oh Well” and “Rattlesnake Shake”. The album artwork features a painting that was originally designed for an English manor and was featured on the cover of The Countryside magazine in 1917. I used multiple techniques on this album. The background and landscape details were created with multiple colors of wool and rayon thread, stitched in multiple stitch lengths and layers. The horse and rider was created with vintage, Art Deco quilt fabric. I liked the idea of incorporating quilting fabric into this piece.
