Eric Clapton, Slow Hand
Embroidery stitched directly through a vinyl record sleeve.

I love stylized album covers, on the Slowhand album you simply see the neck of his Stratocaster with his arm sliding over the fold. The black and white photography on the album is striking and for some reason always reminded me of Springsteen's Born to Run, maybe because the images cross over from the front to the back. I decided to use a vintage damask pattern as a background and stitched the pattern in white cotton thread. I embroidered his signature guitar and hand in swirls of cashmere yarn. The yarn over the cotton background creates a stimulating blend of textures. The title was created with miniature embroidered patches mounted onto the album.
