When embroidering on an album cover, some albums almost dictate what I need to do based on the imagery. Some albums have very little to start with so I get to be more creative with how I approach the piece. The self-titled Beyonce album falls into the later category. The album is essentially black with her name in bubble gum pink in the center of it. I decided to create a floral background in a woodblock style and then embroider the flowers in black yarn. The yarn gives the background a deep texture. For the lettering I laser cut the letters from the liner notes in the album and then embroidered them on top of the original letters. The registration was very difficult, the raised letters create a beautiful texture to the piece.
